Gordon webster to play for KJS
Updated 2 Nov 2000 07:22 by Dave Tran |
The Kingston Jazz Society presents the GORDON WEBSTER QUARTETTE Sunday November 5th.
KJS members may recall the first time we all laid eyes on this fine looking young man: it was a Can-Am Festival, 22 or 23, when he mounted the stage and sat down at the piano and executed one stunning moment with Rita ? I can't recall the song but it was one of Rita's heart-stopping ballads ? and then bolted from the room to catch his train. "Who," we sat around marveling, "was that? And what do you have to do to get him back on the bandstand?" Well it turns out that he's been a semi-regular down here since then, playing at Indigo and in Gananoque from time to time. He's coming for the November session, November 5, with his brother Mike on tenor sax, Kevin Dempsey on drums and a bassist TBA. Gordon will play a number of selections from his recent CD threewe as well as a number of standards ? sounds like a dance-able evening of jazz.
(excerpt from the KJS website)
The event will be at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour Restaurant, 5:00-10:00pm, Sunday November 5th. The cost is $5.00 for students.

Queen's Swing Club Coming soon to the Frosh Week Sidewalk Sale, Saturday, 9 September!
Updated 12 Aug 2000 07:04 by Dave Tran |
It's been a pretty quiet summer in Kingston. I guess the boredom here makes one appreciate the club scene in Toronto that much more!
Looking at the calendar, we have less than a month until the big sidewalk sale. Last year's was so much fun ? we were dancing from nine (in the morning) to five! What impressed us the most was the number of people who came up to us and wanted to join the club. Truly an enjoyable time and we look forward to doing it again!
We also need some help in running the sidewalk sale event successfully. We will be advertising our first live band event of the school year (in Late September) as well as accepting memberships. If you want to help us out with the event, please send an email to our president.
