Balboa: 1-3 (BEG, ADV)

Updated 10 Mar 2003 11:43 by Dave Tran

Beginners

Known for making it easy to dance to quick-tempoed music, this multi-faceted dance will expand your ability to dance to a wider beat range. From the basic closed, "pure balboa" position, to the open positions in Bal-Swing, you'll learn the key movements that will give you a solid base of fundamentals as well as help you rapidly evolve.

Advanced Dancers

You'll build variations upon your existing elementary Balboa skills as well as introduce you to new patterns and footwork that's more original and more-complex, both in Balboa and Bal-Swing. You'll work equally on style and connection between partners.

Because of the high degree of connection that Balboa requires, Advanced dancers who are good at leading and following Lindy Hop have an advantage and will be learning Balboa in a seperate class. But fear not, Beginners, you'll be so comfortable with Balboa by your third class that you'll be able to bust it to anything Dean Mora can dish out.

Shim Sham (ALL)

Updated 10 Mar 2003 11:43 by Dave Tran

The Shim Sham, a popular swing line dance that originated back in the 1930s, has become a tradition in many clubs and dance halls around the world where people are swing dancing today. It is a jazz dance, done in a line, that has the look and feel of a classy tap dance. But you can learn to do it, even if you've never danced a step of tap in your life.

If you don't already know the dance, now you can join the fun. If you do know the dance, you can always brush up so you don't look like a fool on the dance floor.

Lindy Hop: 1 (ALL), 2 (ALL), 3 (ADV)

Updated 10 Mar 2003 11:37 by Dave Tran

We will examine fundamental Lindy Hop movement from the very top. After these classes your dancing will never be the same. Previous exposure to Lindy Hop is an asset but not absolutely essential if you are a fast learner. The three classes are progressive, and must be taken in sequence.

The Lindy Hop 3 class is only open to participants who have done lots of social Lindy Hop dancing, lessons and workshops for at least one year (ADV only).

Updated 10 Mar 2003 12:13 by Dave Tran

Feel lost when a slow, groovy tune comes on? In this class we will be working on the fundamentals of blues dancing. Blues dancing is all about connection with your partner and dancing with the music, two things we all love to work on.
