The Queen's Swing Club is proud to present Fred Ngo and Sylwia Bielec from Montréal, Québec for a weekend of non-stop dancing.
Here's your chance to give your Lindy Hop skills a huge boost by learning from the guy who brought Lindy Hop to Kingston many years ago!
You'l learn more about connecting with your partner and using the music to make your dancing come alive.
You'll also be learning tons of leadable (and followable!) moves to spice up your dancing, as well as Blues dancing, and some of the most challenging Lindy Hop taught in Kingston to date!
And did we mention that you'll learn Swing Rueda?
From Out of Town? Billeting Information
Here at Queen's, just about everybody's from out of town. If you need a place to stay in Kingston we'll set you up. Please contact Laura Stewart as soon as possible if you want to stay with us.
Swing Club members, here's your chance to get to know all sorts of dancers from out of town! If you have some spare room and wouldn't mind shacking up a fellow dancer or two, please contact Laura immediately.

About Fred and Sylwia
Updated 29 Aug 2002 23:26 by Dave Tran |
Fred Ngo
Fred has been teaching Lindy
Hop since 1998. He is the head instructor and founder of Cat's Corner
and is widely credited with bringing Lindy Hop into the mainstream in
Montréal. The vast majority of active Lindy Hop dancers in
Montréal have been direct students of Fred.
Fred is also the producer of the
Montréal International Swing
Dance Festival, Canada's first swing dance camp and largest swing
event.
A certified Lindy Hop nut, Fred has traveled near and far in order to
study with the best swing dance masters in the U.S. and abroad. As a
result, Fred's continually evolving style is a synthesis of the best
characteristics he has encountered; a blend of modern Savoy and left
coast styling.
[Editor's note]
Fred spent a year and a half here in Kingston to help spread the good word of Lindy Hop out east from Toronto. Our best dancers learned, practiced, taught and performed with Fred before he moved on to Montréal (full-time) in 2000. Those were some grueling dance classes! :)
Sylwia Bielec
Sylwia comes to Lindy Hop from
a rather different background. Having spent 15 years dancing in a
folkdance performing troupe, she brings to Lindy Hop her love of movement
and partner dance. Her folkdance roots have taught her that, above all
else, dance belongs to the people and each of us has natural internal
rhythms and a biological impetus to move. Never doing things by
halves, Sylwia jumped into lindy hop with both feet (but centered ;-)) and
attended workshops and camps with the world's leading teachers. She
continues to travel as often as possible to workshops and exchanges
throughout North America.

Classes
Updated 29 Aug 2002 23:24 by Dave Tran |
Please note that all classes will be held at
Bodyworks, on Princess street.
Lindy Hop from the Top, Parts 1-3:
We will examine the fundamental Lindy Hop steps from the very
top. After these classes your dancing will never be the same. Previous
exposure to Lindy Hop is an asset but not absolutely essential if you
are a fast learner. The three classes are progressive, and
therefore must be taken in sequence.
Swing Rueda
Swing Rueda is a group dance that was created by Jeff Miller and
Elaine Hewlett (www.therhythmroom.net)
of Dallas, TX. Swing Rueda is danced in a circle with multiple couples,
similar to Salsa Rueda. There
is a caller who orchestrates the moves done by the circle of dancers. It
has been sweeping North America by storm and now it is
here in Kingston!
You will already need to know the Lindy Hop basics
(e.g. swingout, inside turn, outside turn, texas tommy, tuck turn) to
take this class!
People who have no dance experience will be allowed to take the first
Swing Rueda class if they have participated in all
three Lindy Hop from the Top classes.
Ton-O-Moves
A ton of socially leadable moves to spice up your
dancing. This class is open to intermediate dancers who have been
dancing for at least 3 months, and are solid on their
basics (i.e., you can do swingouts, lindy circles, and
most of the "basic" lindy hop moves – texas tommy, inside and
outside turns – without counting in your head)
Blues
Back by popular demand after the Solomon and Rebecca workshop (yes, we
will get Kingston blues dancing eventually).
Feel lost when a slow, groovy tune comes on?In this class we will be
working on the fundamentals of blues dancing.Blues dancing is all
about connection and listening to the music, two things
we all love to work on, and Fred and Sylwia will bring us all to
new heights of understanding and appreciation! This class is open to our
better intermediate dancers, who have taken formal
classes before or have been social dancing for quite a while.
The Butt Kicker!
This class is for the most advanced dancers in
Kingston. Be prepared to be challenged; be prepared to sweat!

Boycott Stoney's
We would like to take the time to boycott Stoney's on Ontario Street.
They decided to cancel our band night because they wanted to get more bar
revenue for "Amateur's Night", or the Saturday before
St. Patrick's Day.
Prove them wrong by never going to Stoney's
for the rest of your life!
