Solomon Douglas is increasingly in demand worldwide as a teacher of Lindy Hop, Balboa, Charleston, and Vernacular Jazz, and is gaining quite a reputation as a Blues Dancing specialist; he has taught dance workshops in Melbourne (Australia), Seattle (Washington), Portland (Oregon), Oakland (California), Waikiki (Hawaii), Seoul (South Korea), Quebec City (Quebec), Ottawa (Ontario), and elsewhere. He is well known as a musician, playing piano and leading bands at swing dance events throughout North America and worldwide in such bands as Back Pocket, the Solomon Douglas Swingtet, and Corner Pocket.

Alana Hock has studied with the best in the world including Sweden's famous troupe - The Harlem Hot Shots; Steven Mitchell & Virginie Jensen; Paul Overton &Sharon Ashe; and Sylvia Sykes. Alana has been teaching Lindy Hop for over 5 years, three of which have been with her current partner, Arthur Lulu. She has had the honour of assisting the 89-year-old granddaddy of swing, Frankie Manning. She has also been teamed with Sweden?s Lennart Westerlund, American phenoms Damon Stone, Peter Strom and Marty Klempner.

She has taught specialty classes at Montreal International Swing Dance Festival and Swingout New Hampshire. Alana has taught workshops in Ottawa, Guelph, Kingston, Syracuse, Buffalo and Vancouver. Mostly, you will find her teaching in Toronto through her own biz, Dance With Alana. She can be found guest teaching with the Toronto Swing Dance Society, U of T and making the rounds of high schools, getting a new generation juiced for Lindy.

Alana and Solomon are both inspirational Lindy Hop performers and teachers. They look forward to bringing their passion and excitement for Lindy Hop to Kingston for the first time in 3 years.

Saturday

Registration and Warm Up (9:30 - 10:00am)

1. In the Zone With Lindy Zen (Levels 1-3, 10:00 - 11:15am)

Momentum, lead-follow, stretch, and compression: this introduction to connection will help both Lindy Hop beginners and expert dancers achieve enlightenment.

2. Lindy Hop FUNdamentals (Levels 1-3, 11:25am - 12:40pm)

A crash-course in eight-count Lindy Hop basics. This will be a fun challenge and a useful review for more advanced dancers who might also pick up some new concepts!

Lunch: 12:40 - 2:00pm

Optional: Blues Dancing (all levels) (Everyone, 2:00 - 3:15pm)

Get your groove on as we show you how to dance to slow, bluesy music. Although this class is optional, attendance is highly recommended, especially if you are planning on attending Sunday's classes.

3. Lindy Hop Moves 'n' Musicality (Levels 1-3, 3:25 - 4:40pm)

Lindy Hop is not all eight-count patterns. Mixing six-count and ten-count patterns into your Lindy Hop provides a great opportunity for expressing the music.

Sunday

4. Gimme Some Sugar! (Levels 2-3, 10:00 - 11:15am)

This will be a class on sugar-pushes, open to dancers of level 2 or higher, and who have attended Saturday's classes. We'll teach the sugar-push not as a step or a pattern, but as a springboard to open up exciting possibilities in your dancing!

Optional: Groovy Jazz Movement (Levels 1-3, non-partnered, 11:25am - 12:40pm)

A vernacular jazz routine suitable for and recommended for all levels. Jazz dancing is a good way to learn skills that are crucial for good Lindy Hop, but hard to pick up in Lindy Hop classes.

Lunch: 12:40 - 2:00pm

5. Lindy Hop Charleston (Levels 2-3, 2:00 - 3:15pm)

We're gonna 'kick' it up a notch and show you some crazy fun ideas for faster tempos of music! Open to level 2 and 3 dancers who have attended all the preceding classes.

6. Advanced Lindy Hop Routine (Level 3, 3:25 - 4:40pm)

This class is not aimed at the faint of heart, and is not aimed at anyone below level 3. Come prepared for a challenge and to have some serious fun!
